Medicine in Characters: A Wonderful Exhibition Combining Chinese Characters and Traditional Chinese Medicine!

“Medicine and Characters - Learning Characters and Learn Health Exhibition” – The Chinese Characters as a Gateway to TCM Health Insights, hosted by the Chinese Cultural Communication Foundation and co-organized by The Conservancy Association, is located in the JC - CA Urban Forestry Green Hub at the Sham Shui Po. After two weeks, it has attracted many teachers and students to explore. In this urban forest education center, children wander through different exhibition areas, experiencing first-hand the charm of Chinese characters and traditional Chinese medicine: searching for interesting ancient characters in the “Oracle Bone Script and Bamboo Slips Corridor”; using their bodies to gesture radicals on the “Radical Explanation Wall” to understand how the character “Medicine” brings joy; listening to the medical dialogue between the Yellow Emperor and Qi Bo in the “Idiom Story Mini-Theater”; and taking photos with giant medicine gourd riddles and a healing medicine pot, learning about the mysteries of plant, animal, and mineral medicines.

The exhibition also features a stamp collection activity, allowing everyone to create their own “Tortoise shell cards”; and a sachet workshop where children can make their own calming sachets. Active participants can also earn tokens to try their luck at the Traditional Chinese Medicine plushie claw machine! In addition, the “Chinese Characters Herbal Art Exhibition” showcases outstanding student creations themed around Chinese medicinal herbs, presenting their unique insights into characters, medicine, and life. On weekends, there will also be an educational theater performance of “Little Kapok & Uncle Yung” and a sachet workshop, deepening understanding of Chinese herbs through storytelling and hands-on activities.

Although the exhibition is short, it uses diverse and engaging methods to allow everyone to discover the stories of Traditional Chinese Medicine behind Chinese characters through games, and to rediscover this long-standing cultural treasure.
