The Project is Officially Launched ! Link to Project Website With the rollout of the activity plan, teacher and parent classes have begun. Emotions are innate, and people with rich emotions tend to react more strongly to external stimuli. Over 2,000 years ago, the “Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon” established a theory of emotions that explores the relationship between emotions, physical health and the circulation of qi. It emphasizes the importance of “preventing diseases before they occur,” nurturing both body and mind, and preventing excessive or prolonged emotional distress from harming overall well-being. To maintain emotional balance in children, it is crucial for children themselves, schools and families to understand and focus on emotions. Through ongoing classroom activities and outreach programs, teachers and parents will gain more experience in understanding the importance of emotional control, from knowledge to practice. To support the plan, the “Emotions and Health TCM – Students Mental Health Care” webpage has officially launched. It includes information on “Emotions and Health” , “Practical Therapeutic Methods” for daily life, “Educational Resources” for teachers and students , a “Parent Handbook” , and various related information suitable for learning and teaching at any time. A special “I Want to Ask...” section is available for inquiries to medical professionals. We hope everyone can find balance in their busy lives and avoid negative emotions.

A Joyful and Enriching Trip! Link to Project Website After learning about and experiencing classroom and outreach activities with teachers and parents, we came to the focus of this program, which is to let students recognize and pay attention to their own emotions. In the classroom, we learned about the seven emotions of human beings. The Chinese Medicine Practitioner helped the students understand how their moods and emotions stimulate the organs and lead to various diseases. When encountering various life pressures, suggest some ways to relieve students' emotions. At the same time, the students walked with us out of the classroom for a two-day and one-night trip to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Town. We experience learning from the outside to the inside. Traveling is a pleasant experience for both body and mind. Students learned about the history of Chinese medicine from the relief gallery of Guinness records; walked along the Baicao Garden, learned about herbs that can regulate health, and picked flowers and plants as materials for herbal rubbings; they practiced the Wuqinxi in the Twenty-Four Solar Terms Cultural Park to maintain physical and mental health. In fact, soups and meals can also be used in conjunction with the 24 solar terms to regulate the body. In the evening, the students learn and exchange some health tips with the Chinese medicine practitioner. In the workshop, students used mugwort to make incense sticks. The unique aroma of mugwort can repel insects and soothe the nerves. They also used fresh mugwort leaves to make handmade soap. The students learned about the diverse uses of Chinese herbal medicine. Herbal plant rubbing is a workshop that provides both visual enjoyment and emotional release, turning the restlessness or depression in your heart into beautiful flower patterns. It was only two days and one night, but we returned home with very fulfilled both physically and mentally.

Chinese Medicine Development Fund (CMDF) – Project Sharing/
To i-Herbal Garden We are very pleased with the fruitful results of the “i-Herbal Garden” project, and appreciate that the school trust with us, also the arrangement and support from CMDF! We are convinced that learning, like the growth of a plant, is a continuous and extended process, the roots are always held down, the trunk is always strong, and the branches and leaves are always spread out. Materia medica planting, from the content to the form, from the project to the contact of many aspects, is full of our full irrigation, carefully cultivated and strong display. Learning from Life and Nature We realized that children like planting, in addition to cultivating their interests, they can also understand the law of life, and be grateful to life and nature. This spiritual learning is completely in line with the spirit and concept of traditional Chinese medicine culture. Combine Knowledge with Practice Combining planting skills and materia medica knowledge, infusing horticultural standards, continuing and extending the learning process, introducing materia medica culture and knowledge in an interesting way, and greatly increasing children's interest in Chinese medicine culture through practical participation. Extended Contacts The gains from a few members spread to school contacts, and from school contacts to cross-school awareness. In this way, “a Herbal Garden” can step by step become a “i-Herbal Garden.” Insatiable Through the “network”, we break down the boundaries and create virtual Tours to connect the school’s “Herbal Garden” with the “Ornamental Garden” in Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, Taiwan and other places, forming an unhindered knowledge and sharing. Link Up and Down In conjunction with the exhibition and activity day, physical interaction, linking online and offline platforms, hand in hand to balance progress.

A trip to experience the “Lingnan TCM Culture. Study Tour. 2024” with eyes and ears. 旅學.2024」交流會 片段 ✦ On January 9th, eight participating schools in the study tour sent teacher and student representatives to gather at Inno Theatre 1 of the Hong Kong Productivity Council in Kowloon Tong for an exchange meeting about their trip. While waiting in the lobby, groups of all sizes were busy practicing and making a final rehearsal. At the exchange meeting, some students were nervous, some were confident. The presentations of their study tour reports clearly showed a lot of effort. From introducing attractions to the format and interview clips, to their personal feelings. It was diverse and comprehensive with each group shining in their own way. With the teachers’ support and even personal participation in sharing their experiences, everyone gained a lot. The whole session was not only exciting and wonderful but also garnered high praise for the tour arrangements. Attendees were immersed in a joyful learning atmosphere and felt deeply moved. The students were delighted seeing Dr. Au and Dr. Kwok, who accompanied them on the study tour again. The two Chinese Medicine Practitioners shared their feelings about interacting with the students during the trip. As advocates for promoting traditional Chinese medicine culture and education, they hoped the students would gain something from the study tour experience and share it with their peers. Towards the end of the exchange meeting, we introduced educational resource packages related to “Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture” for extended learning. These two kits, “Intangible Cultural Heritage - Herbal Tea” and “Q&A - Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture and Lingnan Tea and Medicated Diet”, revolve around Lingnan geography, culture, life, and health. They guide students to learn about the characteristics of integrating traditional Chinese medicine into daily life and medicated diets, embodying the spirit of “preventive treatment” in traditional Chinese medicine culture. They also explore the folk wisdom behind Lingnan’s unique herbal tea and herbal tea culture, as well as the essence of becoming an intangible cultural heritage. The educational resource packages are now available for download on the “Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture. Study Tour. 2024” website, along with a short introductory video. A teacher’s version of the packages is also available, including lesson plans, answer and suggested references to facilitate classroom teaching. Thank you to all for taking time to participate amidst busy tests and exams, for immersing yourselves in the journey, and for putting your hearts into creating the reports. This allows visitors to the “Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture. Study Tour. 2024” website to experience the vastness and fun of “Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture” through their eyes and ears. Finally, we thank the Chinese Medicine Development Fund for their funding, which gave the students and teachers the opportunity to participate. The students’ laughter and engagement, the teachers’ recognition and appreciation, and the parents’ support and encouragement have injected a powerful boost of motivation into our work of promoting traditional Chinese medicine culture.

Takeaway of Chinese Medicine Culture on Campus – “Traveling through Time and Space, Learn from a Master” 剛過去的 12 月,我們與油蔴地天主教小學(海泓道)合作策劃了一個中醫藥文化的「主題學習週」,主題是「穿越時空,拜師學藝」,讓六年級的同學在中醫師及導師帶領下進行各項學習與體驗。 In December, we worked with Yaumatei Catholic Primary School (Hoi Wang Road) to plan a “Theme Learning Week” on Chinese medicine culture. The theme was “Traveling through time and space, learning from a master”. Conduct various learning and experience activities under the guidance of a tutor. The themes are divided into five groups, namely Culture, Health Preservation, Syndrome Differentiation, Meridians and Materia Medica. Students will apprentice according to their groups and then embark on several days of learning and experience. The Cultural group focuses on healthy living and moral education; the Health Preservation group combines both dynamic and static activities, learning the “Campus Wuqinxi” to keep fit and absorbing the unique culture and significance of Lingnan herbal tea; the Syndrome Differentiation group explores the health concept of traditional Chinese medicine and takes into account the impact of personal constitution; The Meridian group learned everything from the concept of meridian acupoints to the various methods of TCM for treating internal diseases with external treatments; the Materia Medica group understood the principles of herbal medicine in treating diseases through the classification of Chinese medicine and the understanding of the four qi and five flavors. In addition to classes and workshops, the students were most excited to go out of campus and visit the Baptist University Chinese Medicine Museum, listen to and taste the history and authentic taste of Herbal Jelly at the Hoitintong Main Store and get to the pharmacy and clinic of Chinese Medicine For All (CMA) to learn about Medicine and herbs. The results of the “Theme Learning Week” were gathered at the weekend. The school auditorium has become a hall for display and sharing. The team members showed what they had learned to students, parents and guests of all levels. They demonstrated the Campus Wuqinxi, transformed into doctors to explain the nine types of body constitutions, played a short play about traditional Chinese medicine stories written, directed and performed by the team, and demonstrated the homemade meridian medicine hammer and the unique “Classic of Materia Medica”, each themed booths were crowded with curious audiences, giving out happy laughter and heartfelt praise. The day’s herbal painting exhibition, glass cabinets and free consultations by Chinese medicine practitioners made the entire learning and sharing experience a complete and rich one. Through a week of learning and experiencing the theme of TCM culture, we are very happy that students can deepen their understanding of TCM culture, transcend the flat impression of seeing a doctor and taking medicine, and thus take root in their daily lives.
